Major pharma provider design system
This engagement was about more than a component library. It was about creating a shared operating model for product teams, governance, and regulated workflows in a pharma ecosystem. I led the strategy, team alignment, and launch planning for a design system that needed to work for clinicians, product owners, and regulatory partners.
Role
Design leader & systems architectDirected product strategy, governance, and system adoption across design and engineering teams.
Scope
Product, governance, design systemEnterprise workflows, clinical UX patterns, accessibility, and compliance guardrails.
Outcome
Shared operating modelCreated governance and adoption plans that reduced rework and aligned clinical, product, and regulatory teams.
Metric
Faster system adoptionReduced approval cycles for regulated UI patterns and improved cross-team consistency.
I started with stakeholder interviews and a design audit, then mapped the gaps between current product delivery and a repeatable system approach. The focus was on three key levers:
The work produced a design system foundation and a governance playbook that enabled consistent execution across clinical and enterprise product teams. Teams gained clarity on which patterns were approved, what needed compliance review, and how to ship faster without sacrificing quality. The system also created a stronger partnership between design and compliance leadership, reducing the number of rework cycles on regulated UI experiences.
The strongest part of this engagement was not the components themselves, but the operating model around them. In future iterations, I would invest even earlier in shared metrics and a launch plan that connects system adoption directly to product velocity and risk reduction.
